TOTO Match explained: bet types, odds and what each $1 returns

Updated 23 Oct 2026 · TotoLab · Source: TOTO Match Game Rules (GRA, effective 3 June 2025)

TOTO Match is a fixed-odds game that settles on the normal Toto draw. Instead of picking six numbers for a share of a prize pool, you pick one to four numbers and win a fixed amount if they all come up. Here is how each bet type works, the exact odds, and how much of each dollar comes back on average.

How TOTO Match works

The TOTO Match game rules took effect on 3 June 2025, from Toto draw #4086. You choose one of four bet types and select 1 to 4 different numbers from 1 to 49. Your bet is settled on the winning numbers of the corresponding Toto draw — there is no separate draw. Each bet costs $1 or a multiple of $1, including GST.

For Match 2, 3 and 4 the Additional Number does not count. Prizes are fixed per $1 staked, so — unlike Toto Groups 1 to 4 — they are not shared with other winners.

Odds and payouts

Bet typeNumbers pickedPrize per $1Odds of winningAverage return per $1
Match Additional Number1$301 in 49.061.2¢
Match 22$501 in 78.463.8¢
Match 33$5001 in 921.254.3¢
Match 44$7,0001 in 14,12549.6¢

Odds are exact. For Match 3, for example, there are 18,424 possible sets of three numbers, and 20 of them are contained in any six winning numbers — so the chance is 20 in 18,424. "Average return" is the prize multiplied by the probability: what each $1 pays back across a very large number of bets.

What the numbers show

Is any Additional Number more likely?

Match Additional Number is a bet on a single ball, so it is natural to ask whether some numbers turn up as the Additional Number more often. Across 688 draws in our database, each number would be expected about 14.0 times.

The same holds for the main numbers: see our analysis of hot and cold numbers and number pairs.

Who TOTO Match suits

TOTO Match does not improve your odds per dollar — it changes the shape of the outcomes. You give up any chance of a multi-million jackpot in exchange for knowing exactly what a win pays. Treat it the same way as any other lottery spend: a fixed entertainment budget, not a way to make money.
