Odd/even and low/high patterns in Singapore Toto
Many Toto players try to "balance" their tickets — three odd and three even numbers, a mix of low and high. We checked how 688 real draws actually split, and compared every figure with the exact mathematical expectation.
Why splits are not equally likely
There are 25 odd numbers (1, 3, … 49) and 24 even numbers between 1 and 49. A ticket with three odd and three even numbers is not "more random" than one with six odd numbers — every individual combination has the same 1 in 13,983,816 chance. But there are far more combinations with a 3/3 split: 4,655,200 of them, against only 177,100 all-odd combinations. That is the whole reason balanced splits turn up more often.
Odd and even: 688 draws vs the maths
| Split | Draws | Actual share | Expected share |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 odd · 6 even | 4 | 0.6% | 1.0% |
| 1 odd · 5 even | 57 | 8.3% | 7.6% |
| 2 odd · 4 even | 163 | 23.7% | 22.8% |
| 3 odd · 3 even | 230 | 33.4% | 33.3% |
| 4 odd · 2 even | 174 | 25.3% | 25.0% |
| 5 odd · 1 even | 55 | 8.0% | 9.1% |
| 6 odd · 0 even | 5 | 0.7% | 1.3% |
- 82% of draws had a 2/4, 3/3 or 4/2 split, against 81% expected.
- All-odd or all-even draws happened 9 times in 688 draws (expected about 15). All-odd draws: #3762 (5 May 2022), #3811 (24 Oct 2022), #3971 (6 May 2024), #4082 (29 May 2025), #4175 (20 Apr 2026).
- A chi-square test of the whole table gives p = 0.64: the real split is consistent with pure chance.
Low (1–24) and high (25–49)
| Split | Draws | Actual share | Expected share |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 low · 6 high | 6 | 0.9% | 1.3% |
| 1 low · 5 high | 72 | 10.5% | 9.1% |
| 2 low · 4 high | 175 | 25.4% | 25.0% |
| 3 low · 3 high | 201 | 29.2% | 33.3% |
| 4 low · 2 high | 166 | 24.1% | 22.8% |
| 5 low · 1 high | 64 | 9.3% | 7.6% |
| 6 low · 0 high | 4 | 0.6% | 1.0% |
The pattern mirrors odd/even: 79% of draws had a 2/4, 3/3 or 4/2 low/high split (expected 81%), and only 10 draws were entirely low or entirely high. The chi-square p-value is 0.13. The 3/3 split came up a little less often than the maths predicts (29.2% vs 33.3%); when you look at many different statistics, gaps of this size are expected somewhere.
What this means for your tickets
Balancing a ticket does not make it more likely to win.
"Most draws are balanced" is true because most combinations are balanced. Your particular 3/3 ticket still has a 1 in 13,983,816 chance — exactly the same as 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12.
Two practical points do follow:
- Balance is a sensible default for spreading picks. If you play several tickets, mixing splits avoids putting all of them on rare patterns. TotoLab's balanced quick pick does this.
- Unusual patterns can mean fewer people to share with. If an all-odd or all-high combination wins, it is less likely to have been chosen by many other players. That does not raise your odds of winning — it can only affect how a Group 1–4 prize is split.
